causes of world war II
1. Some historians maintain that WWII was an extension or continuation of WWI. List several arguments supporting this idea.
It was obvious that Treaty of Versailles was directed to Germany unfairly becausethe Germans hated the Treaty of Versailles was because they thought it was unfair. Germany had not taken part in the Conference. The terms were imposed upon Germany – when Germanydisagreed, the Allies threatened to go to war again. The Germans felt ashamed and unjust of what they had to gone through. They felt that they were not defeated in WWI but was 'stab in the back' or betrayed by the government. So when a influential figure rose up (Hitler) of which he promised the Germans that he will bring glory to Germany and end the torture, the people believed in it so it eventually led to the start of WWII.
2. Between the two world wars, the free nations of the world followed a policy of appeasement toward Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and the military leaders of Japan. They gave in to the demands of these leaders in order to prevent a war. Was appeasing these leaders a wise decision on the part of the free world? Why or why not?
Russia was ruled by a tyrant, known as Joseph Stalin and Europe was in danger of becoming full of communists so they followed Adolf Hitler because he had promised to bring glory to Germany and end the torture, they appeased him.
He didn’t need to be blond, moral or authentic he only needed to be a strong voice in a troubling time. The German people in that day were desperate for a voice of confidence. The currency of the country was fluctuating daily and the people were desperate for stability. He represented a leadership in a time the people were desperate for leadership but he was never called to task because the middle, moral class was to busy with other issues.
3. How do you think Germany, Italy and Japan viewed the appeasing attitude of other nations?
They viewed it as weakness. Essentially the other nations were giving them what they wanted and it made them realize they had more power then they originally thought. Therefore Germany, Italy, and Japan invaded several nations without second thoughts because of the lax attitude of appeasement. If history taught us anything, its Appeasement NEVER works.
4. The League of Nations was established as a provision of the Treaty of Versailles after WWI. Its purpose was to prevent future wars. Do you think a stronger League of Nations would have prevented WWII? Why or why not?
If the Treaty of Versailles had not put such harsh punishments on Germany, then the nation would not have been perfect to be taken over by a dictator. If the League of Nations had not abandoned Germany after they lost a war, let's say they were put under an Allied army occupation until they could pick themselves up from WW1, then Hitler would not have been necessary and since there wouldn't have been anything for him to do, like make the impression that he was really helping to rebuild Germany when in reality he was aiming for world domination, not many, if any, would have followed his beliefs. This could have prevented WW2.
